Shin Splints

PROBLEM

Shin Splints, formally called Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome, presents as pain or discomfort on the inside of the lower leg with activity. It can be due to micro-tears in the muscles of the lower leg, such as the tibialis posterior and soleus due to overuse or repetitive stress. There can also be irritation and sensitization of the tibial nerve. Training the muscles of the foot and stretching the structures to “floss’ the tibial nerve can sometimes completely relieve the symptoms and get you back to being active.

VIDA SOLUTION

The name Shin Splints implies that the problem is with the shin bone, which is not necessarily the case. If there are adhesions or scar tissue from a previous injury to the area further treatment with manual therapies and further rehabilitation may be needed to resolve this issue.
