Low FODMAP Diet
The Low FODMAP Food Plan is specifically designed for individuals with functional gut disorders, such as IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) or SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). This plan temporarily removes high-FODMAP foods, which are poorly absorbed in the body and can lead to bloating, gas, and discomfort.
FODMAPs = Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, and Polyols.
These are short-chain carbohydrates that can be poorly absorbed, causing digestive distress. Examples include onions, garlic, certain fruits, and dairy products. After 4-8 weeks on the Low FODMAP plan, foods are slowly reintroduced to identify which are well-tolerated.
